Hi Frockers and happy Friday! Here I am in my Annie Hall inspired get-up and I’m totally loving this as a transitional look for fall. I was really inspired by the “Fashion and Film on the Same Stage” show at the FMDM, as you know how much I love the intermingling of these two worlds. I’m also really glad that fall-winter shorts are sticking around for this upcoming season because it is such a fun, easy look (pair them with tights and booties on colder days). Additionally, a crisp white shirt is an essential in any wardrobe (male AND female) and the one I’m wearing here is actually unisex giving it a very authoritative vibe.

Well, hope you enjoyed this look and as much as it pains me, it’s time to start thinking about our fall wardrobes!

It's In The Bag

Frockers, I have a confession. As much as I love secondhand and cheap clothing stores (see Like A Million Bucks), I've been coveting an iconic LV handbag for a while now. There are many handbags that catch my eye, but the Noé is right up there at the top. The style is just so effortlessly chic and elegant but accessible.

Since the price tag of a new one is about three times my monthly rent, I had nearly given up on my dream until I stumbled onto Beyond the Rack and their pre-owned LV sale. Naturally, I had a slightly panicked afternoon of debate, indecision and frenzy before I took the plunge and made a purchase. The quality is amazing considering I only paid about 20% of the price of a new one. There are signs of wear, sure, but that's all part of the vintage appeal!

Hard-working lads and lasses need to reward themselves from time to time. Some people choose junk food or spa days, but me? I'll take an LV, thank you very much.

Last Year's Romance

Last year's romance is the navy floral skirt you see in the pictures above. Last summer, I just couldn't get enough of this skirt, wearing it once or even twice a week. This year, I seem to have forgotten about it, like an old summer fling. Unlike some of my other skirts that are able to transition through the different seasons, this skirt is exclusive to summer. I finally wore it out this week for a cute little workday outfit. C'est simple, c'est beau!

As we slowly approach the end of August, Jackie and I are grasping for our most colourful attire to get in a few last wears. Jackie's wearing what we call her "grape dress." This frock is both flattering due to its waist-defining silhouette, but unforgiving in how tightly it hugs the body. Still, we love the ruffle and print details on this dress that make it extra special. I'm wearing my classic bright pink number which I usually allow myself 4 to 5 wears per summer, it's a must. Also, proof that Jackie and I are fashion soulmates: we both have a favourite pair of yellow sandals! Throw in some bubblegum and lemonade and voila: a picture-perfect summer in a nutshell!

Like A Million Bucks

Ladies (and gents), you may have noticed that I love a good bargain. It is my firm belief that you don't need to spend a ton on designer labels to make a statement! Even if you're not trying to make a statement, and you just don't want to look like a hobo.

You really can't go wrong shopping at thrift stores and cheap chains. It may take a bit of hunting around and creatively to piece all the details together (see The Devil Is In The Details), but allow me to be your thrifty tutor, your cheap coach, your penny-pinching pedagogue, and you'll discover the wonders of the $5 bin, how to cheap out on trends that you won't care about in a month, and the ever-elusive ripped-up-but-fixable sales rack find.

Ya don't need to spend a million bucks, to look like a million bucks!

The Devil is in the Details

I was at the Musée des beaux-arts recently to check out their Chihuly exhibit and if I had to sum up the show in a few words, I'd say it was lovely but menacing, like the ocean or deep space. The jungle of forms, pointed, smooth and spotted, were all moving together, reaching for something invisible. Naturally, I began thinking about how long it took them to decide on the angle and location of each piece of the puzzle, not to mention installing them one by one. . .

It really reminded me of fashion and all the little details and pieces that come together to tell a story. It's all about tiny parts working and moving as one to create an image. Each piece, while lovely on its own, really doesn't reach its impact potential until joined with something else in just the right way.

Like with any art form, attention to detail is key.

Miami Moments: Part 3

Hi Frockers! Hope everyone had a good week. Here is my third and final post about my Miami trip so I can finally stop reliving the memories. I've had a bit of withdrawal this week but I'll survive. Until next time, Miami!

Miami Moments: Part 2

Here I am on day 2 of my Miami trip still lounging around and feeling blissful. I picked up this easy cotton dress at H&M the week before and loved the strangely glam black and gold pattern. It really reminded me of clothing my grandmother used to wear (she was pretty glam) so it was a must-have.

Miami Moments: Part 1

Hi Frockers! This week I want to share with you some of my favorite fashion moments from my recent weekend trip to Miami. I spent an amazing three days on the beach, basking in the sun and sipping sweet lemonade. I love the simplicity that comes with such hot weather and the beach life. When I’m here, all I really need is a bathing suit, a head scarf and my beach bag. Here’s some pictures of my first morning in Miami, getting ready to hit the beach in a classic black two-piece. Enjoy!
