The IRIS Experience

A few weeks ago, I was invited to the IRIS eye care center to perform a thorough eye exam and learn more about their products and services, particularly the new SPY Happy Lens sunglasses. Because I've never worn prescription eye wear or had any trouble with my vision, it had been a very long time since my last exam. I immediately accepted the opportunity and was amazed by the entire IRIS experience.

As I walked into the IRIS boutique, I was kindly greeted by Vincent, the optician waiting for me at the front desk. Without further ado, I was taken to begin my tests promptly, no waiting whatsoever. The first two tests were simple pre-tests performed by Vincent, the optician, who also made me fill out a quick questionnaire. The questionnaire serves to help evaluate visual demand in your daily activities, your eye health history and any hereditary diseases that may affect your eye health as well. I was then introduced to Josée, the optometrist, a lovely woman who was going to perform the remaining tests which made up the bulk of the eye exam. What's important to note is that an eye exam is not simply an evaluation of visual acuity, but rather, a checkup on overall eye health. Josée and I performed several tests together including the slit lamp exam, a refraction assessment, ophthalmoscopy, tonometry and a pachymetry test to determine corneal thickness.

When all the tests were completed, Josée was happy to announce that my eyes were in excellent condition and there was no need for any prescription. And now the fun part, Vincent brought me over to the display window for the SPY Optic Happy Lens where I was to choose my new pair of sunglasses.  The Happy Lens is actually a really fun new concept that is supposed to protect you from the sun's harmful rays but at the same time maximizing the transmission of the sun's "good" rays, those that improve mood and well, happiness!
Since I didn't find any in their display that suited me right, Vincent allowed me to browse the website to choose another model. I ended up choosing the Quinn model and I was told they would arrive in about a week. Throughout the week, Vincent called me to inform me of the progress of my sunglasses and then later informed me a few days later when they had arrived. An excellent service once again!

I've been wearing my new Quinn glasses with the Happy Grey Green Lens for over a week now and I particularly like the high contrast of the lens and the vibrancy of the colors as well. These are perfect for everyday use especially when I'm driving. Also I think they look pretty cool! Can't wait to wear these babies on the beach somewhere!

And now here I am looking happy in my new Happy Lens!

A big thank you to Melanie, Vincent, Josée and Maria from IRIS and Spy Optic for this wonderful experience!

Drama Queen

I can hear the fashion police sirens now. What a faux pas! The burgundy lips, the smokey eye, the dark sweater dress, the oxfords, the cloche chapeau...this fashion story screams autumn fairytale, but I had to whip it out in May. That's just how I roll. I may love florals and circle skirts most days of the week, but I am never one to deny my heart's fancy. I dress how I feel. And I just felt like a little.....drama.

What better way to celebrate my birthday than with some floral, lace and leather. Here I am just on my way for a birthday dinner and decided to snap a few shots in one of my favorite dresses. Unfortunately the wind was so strong that day I had to wear my jacket on top.
I know that "the Slip dress" was a big trend last season and I love how this Zara dress just takes a little inspiration from that with the lace detail at the bottom, the perfect compliment to the delicate floral pattern. Also, you can never go wrong with the classic color combination of black, white and red- it's always a winner! Enjoy the weekend everyone!

A Midi Moment

Move over geographic, asymmetrical hemlines, the midi skirt is having its moment!

Forgo the mini skirts and A-liners this season and embrace the full, below-the-knee look. It has always been one of my favourite wardrobe staples. I consider it a must-have in my closet, the same way most women might think of skinny jeans or a white blouse. No doubt you Frockers know my favourite Modcloth skirt well, and the newest way to wear it is actually a nod to the olden days: with a plain sweater and simple pumps. There's something so classy, feminine and pretty about this silhouette. And if you happen to prefer a more edgy or modern take on the midi skirt, just swap out the fitted sweater for a baggy one and trade your pumps in for some high-tops. The skirt still works!

I have to say, it really warms my heart that a fashion piece I've longed admired (and will admire long after the trend fades) has finally gotten the attention it so deserves! Here's to you, midi!

La Vie en Rose

Hat and Jacket: Thrifted / Skirt: H&M / Top: Joe Fresh / Socks: American Apparel / Shoes: Payless / Brooch: Thrifted

Don't you just love when an outfit comes together so effortlessly, that's when you know it was meant to be. I spotted this pink jacket at a vintage sale to support Alzheimer care and immediately fell in love. When I got home I added the brooch for a little extra punch and it was like a match made in heaven. Once I had this jacket, I picked out a few pieces that fit into the girlish romantic story and the textures and colours all came together beautifully. Sometimes, the best way to create an outfit is to work around one particular piece because this will keep you focused instead of tearing apart your closet aimlessly. We've all been there, right ladies?!

French Connection Preview: Fall/Winter 2014

Last week, Jackie and I were invited to a presentation of the French Connection Fall/Winter 2014 collection. Hosted by the fab Charmain Emerson (Marketing VP for Canada) in collaboration with LouLou magazine, we were presented with some key looks for the upcoming season. Additionally, Charmain also brought some pieces from their current Spring/Summer collection to give us a taste of what was in stores right now.

The fall/winter pieces were pretty diversified but one thing that we can never live without in those chillier months is our (faux) fur! This jacket was quite impressive as it could almost fool you to think it was real. We also loved the chic collarless aspect of it.
I have to say that I really loved these two pieces from the fall/winter collection: a baby blue wool coat and this wonderful black and white flare dress with lace detail.
We also saw some interesting tops with real life landscapes used to create unique prints.
Next, we took a look at the spring/summer collection that is in stores right now. This rack was full of lighter tones including lots of white pieces, my favourite colour for summer!
The detailing on the white dress below made us extra giddy!
The lovely Charmain charming the room.
