The Canadian Uniform

Photos by Kyler Kelly

F21 top and necklace/American Eagle jeans/booties from Hong Kong

Denim is one of the biggest trends this fall, with overalls and jumpsuits being the new thing you didn't think was a thing. Another way to hop aboard this style is donning what can be affectionately coined as the "Canadian Uniform." To be honest, I think there's a third piece I'm missing to make it official, but close enough! The easiest way to try this look out is with a dark plus light colour combo. It breaks up the look just enough. And throw on some statement accessories and you're ready to take on the Canadian autumn....eh?

The Primark Purchase

Primark Coat / H&M pants / Parkhurst hat / F21 necklace / Winners shoes

Is there anything better than fashion on a budget? Nope, didn't think so. That's why when my boyfriend recently visited the UK, I didn't care for any particular souvenirs but instead, asked him to go on a little Primark mission for me. If you didn't know, Primark is basically a hub for fast fashion at very low cost, probably the UK version of Forever 21 in some ways. Anyway, lucky for me, he made out like a champ bringing me back this amazing red coat with glorious faux fur collar. I was also happy to hear he picked up a pair of jeans for himself as well. All in all, the mission was a success! I also hear that Primark may soon be opening stores in the US so I'm very excited about this as well!

Modcloth: The Online Retro Heaven

Modcloth dress, skirt, handbag, headband, swimsuit

Frockers, if you've been following the blog from the beginning, you will remember how much I love ModCloth. It is one of my all-time favourite online retailers. If you check out their website, I think it's pretty clear why. They have all the cutest indie, vintage and retro-inspired pieces that you can find anywhere! They have everything from clothes to accessories, handbags and shoes to home décor and gift items. And I think because they are an online store, they really put everything into the shopping experience. You can chat with a ModStylist while you shop if you have any questions or need some help and they have a blog section where you can check out their looks on real people and see tons of extra fun stuff like DIY and makeup tutorials. And they are one of the few online retailers I've seen that have a variety of Plus Size Dresses. Diversity of sizing is important to me since I have trouble myself, fitting into the standard S, M, and L. Amirite ladies? And if you need some cool Halloween inspiration, check out their new Halloween Shop!

Happy shopping, Frockers!

Oh autumn, with the beautiful colours and the fashionable layering, who could resist? I'm a summer girl myself, but this year autumn has begun to sway me. I'm starting to appreciate the beauty of the autumn sun and the magic of a pumpkin spice latte. But most of all, I love the fashion! So many coats to choose from, so many hats to grace our heads, the endless array of patterned nylons, the outfits seem endless. Ok who else is excited?!

Pumpkin Spice

Photos by Kyler Kelly

American Eagle jean/Vintage vest and boots/Blouse from Korea

It's official. Fall is here! How do I know? There's a nip in the air, I had my first caramel apple spice from Starbucks yesterday and Atwater Market is awash with pumpkins. Some are so tiny they could fit in the palm of my hand, Some are so large, I'm pretty sure they weigh more than three of me combined. Oh yeah, and students are cramming for midterms.

But I took a break from the books to stroll through the market recently and collect some small pumpkins for my doorway, an annual October tradition. They sit, waiting patiently for about a week or so before Halloween when I bring them in, carve them out, bake their seeds and display their scary visages for all the neighbourhood kids to see. For this casual fall outing, I donned a polka dot chiffon blouse I picked up when I was in Seoul last year, dark skinny jeans, and vintage vest and boots. Fall never felt so good!

Girly Trench

F21 Dress / H&M coat (old) / Winners Booties / American Apparel hat  / Thrifted belt and bag

Is there nothing more synonymous with fall fashion then a classic beige trench coat? This H&M slightly girlish trench has been with me throughout the years and was bought during my earlier days of discovering fashion love. Even then, I knew that a beige trench was a classic staple in my wardrobe. But now that I'm all grown up, it might be time for us to part ways as this coat has definitely seen better days. So, a final ode to the trench...you've served me well!

Cream of the Crop

Photos by Kyler Kelly

Zara dress/H&M cardigan/vintage flats

There's nothing that says fall quite like a dusty, neutral palette. I'm not a huge fan of browns in clothing, but I love creams, beiges, and nudes. Especially cream. It's so light, elegant and warm. This dress was a Zara find (gifted by my cousin Annie) and it just reminds me of a golden afternoon in a rustic country setting. I know, I know....spoken like a true city girl. This look is probably best for lounging in the garden! And what's more, the dress carries my all-time favourite print (floral, could you guess?) well into the autumn theme. Just throw on a light cardigan and neutral flats and voilà: a simple, cute, country, fall-chic look.

A Simple Formula

F21 skirt / H&M jacket / American Apparel shirt / Zara shoes / Thrifted Hat and Belt

The seasonal transition between summer and fall can be one of the most sartorially confusing times of the year. I know that for me, it is definitely the most challenging time no matter how much I prepare and do my fashion research (yes I just said research! haha). Therefore, I think sometimes it can be helpful to have a few simple formulas you can fall back on. Ok example, it might not look it at first, but this is a real easy outfit I would encourage anyone to try. Black skirt + white shirt + fun jacket! It really is the simplest formula and I think several variations of this would work perfectly well. Next time you're stuck, just think of one of those simple formulas, and bring it to life!
