GUESS Spring 2015 Preview

I recently popped into the GUESS Spring 2015 shindig to see what we have to look forward to after the deep freeze coming up and it just made me pine for Spring all the more. Pastels, neon, bright pink and yellows, maxi dresses, distressed denim, polka dots and of course, florals are waiting for us at the end of the tunnel...

Here are a few pics of some of the upcoming trends to keep you warm through the winter!

Stylist for a Day

This week, I got the opportunity to attend the Spring 2015 photo shoot for Canadian fashion retailer, Smart Set. Not only did I get to observe the whole process but I was able to style my own 3 looks. Here is a little recap of my experience.

All the shooting was done by photographer, Geneviève Charbonneau, and she is one talented lady! The photos looked amazing!
The following photos below are the three looks I put together. I tried to put a little piece of myself in each look. The first look I based around this army green jacket, an item I have often said is a staple in any closet. I love to contrast the slightly rugged feel of an army jacket with something more delicate which is why I paired it with this floral top.
This second look should be no surprise. As soon as I saw that white lacy crochet style top, I knew I had to use it. I went for a classic approach and paired this with a perfect medium blue jean and then adding this black cardi/kimono really adding a boho flair. It's not too visible in the photo but the cardigan has some lovely crochet detailing.
This last look is, of course, a homage to my love for Bruce Springsteen. What else can I really say, nothing rocks harder than a denim vest!

Thank you to Smart Set for this amazing and fun opportunity!

Retro College Chic

I always love fall in Montreal. There is no autumn more picturesque in Canada. Even though, it is kind of the slow death of summer, heralding in the long, cold, hard Canadian winter...but I digress. Fall is also synonymous with the start of a new school year and this year, as some of you might know, I decided to leap back into university after a few years of getting my bachelor's degree. Cue the plaid skirts, vintage schoolbags and retro college girl vibe! I have to say, dressing the part does make hitting the books and heading to class a bit more fun...

BOF Street Style

Joe Fresh Coat / Sweater from TJ Maxx / American Apparel leggings / Vintage scarf / F21 hat and bag / Mossimo booties via Target / Sunglasses from Payless

Although the world of fashion can be such a broad and complicated thing, one of my favourite facets of this world has always been Street Style. Street Style, in its simplest form is exactly what the name suggests, style that is seen in the streets. For me, this fascination started a long time ago with the discovery of The Sartorialist, a blog so popular I needn't say another word about it. It is this genre of fashion, if you will, which I have always found the most interesting and inspiring and it's part of the reason why I became a fashion blogger. I often associate street style with looks that seem effortless and yet casual and chic at the same time but always, ALWAYS with that certain je ne sais quoi element that elevates the look to another level. I think it's that je ne sais quoi element that will always keep me going, chasing it till the very end.

Falling For Some Autumn Trends

Photos by Kyler Kelly

I guess you could call this, my autumn-summary look. I didn't realize it until I started writing this post, but I was really going all out in the autumn trends for this look. The faux fur, the black, the burgundy wide-brimmed fedora, the dark mani, the knee-high boots.... Admittedly a bit much, even for me. But fashion and making a statement has always synonymous. After the initial shock of the dropping temperatures and wilting flowers, it's time to embrace the brighter side of autumn!

Light Jeans: Not Just a Summer Thing!

Coat: H&M / Jeans: TJ Maxx / Top: Zara / Shoes: Old Navy / Bag: F21 / Scarf: Thrifted

What stands out most to me about this outfit is that I am wearing light jeans and it is not summer. Lately, I've had a change of heart about my preference in denim washes. For the longest time, I swore by dark denim, it felt so crisp and sophisticated and just, well, cool. But lately, a light wash has really been doing it for me and I'm learning to adopt lighter shades in colder seasons, something that has always been a challenge for me. And another thing, wearing dark shoes with light pants is a look that generally feels weird to me. But why? There's no point in hanging on to these fashion fallacies, just throw on your baddest beige trench and you're ready for anything!
