I'm All About That Cardi

Thrifted handkerchief and boots
Levi Strauss belt
H&M cardigan

I would definitely say that cardigans are a wardrobe must-have. I myself have several in my collection because nothing helps you hang onto your summer garb long after summer is over than a good ol' cardi. I'm dressing it up with loads of accessories in this look to add a bit more interest to an otherwise plain cardigan from H&M. By the way, for all you short girls out there, I find that accentuating the waist with a belt is a great way to make your short legs look....well not long but not even shorter in those longer skirts. Anyway, back to cardis....I like to round out my collection with neutral colours that go with everything, with one or two textured or fun-coloured design. What can I say? Cardigans are like jeans to me.

Retro College Chic

Photos by Kyler Kelly

I always love fall in Montreal. There is no autumn more picturesque in Canada. Even though, it is kind of the slow death of summer, heralding in the long, cold, hard Canadian winter...but I digress. Fall is also synonymous with the start of a new school year and this year, as some of you might know, I decided to leap back into university after a few years of getting my bachelor's degree. Cue the plaid skirts, vintage schoolbags and retro college girl vibe! I have to say, dressing the part does make hitting the books and heading to class a bit more fun...

I'm Singin' The Blues

American Apparel dress/Aldo arm cuff/Zara clutch/le Chateau pumps

It's nice to rediscover old pieces you may have forgotten about or thought you didn't like anymore. Take this American Appareal number picked up at their famous warehouse sale a while ago. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed the rich colour and drapey skirt! Sometimes all it really takes is leaving something untouched in the ol' closet for a while to re-appreciate it.

Where Everyone's In Love and Flowers Pick Themselves

 Photos by Kyler Kelly

You would think I love all things floral, but you'd be wrong. Some floral prints make my eyebrows furrow, not gonna lie. It could be the colour choices, the design of the buds, the layout of stems ... I am a discerning floral lover! This beauty hit all the high notes just right. The rich blue, the stylized blooms, the cut of the hem and sleeves ... just add to that, the fact that I can now wear my favourite unitard to work without getting sent home like a 12-year-old and it was a match made in heaven. I love the whimsy and easy decadence this print introduces to what could have been a very casual silhouette. No question, it was love at first sight with this sheer floral number!

One of the things I hate most about winter is the ritual of packing away our favourite skirts and dresses, never to see the light of day. I maintain a firm belief that trousers need not be winter's go-to garment. Though you may not want to venture out of doors literally in bare skin, who's to tell you a trip to the museum, high-tea with your cousin, or any ol' Tuesday can't be kicked up a notch? There's no lighter feeling than a tulle skirt that just seems to float around your body. Hello old friend, it's been too long...

I'm An Old Fuddy-Duddy At Heart

One of my standard winter uniforms consistent of this black/grey ensemble that kind of reminds me of something a stylish granny would wear. It sort of envelopes you in warmth. There's just something about the asymmetrical cardigan that I love! I suppose it's because it just floats around you like a pretty dress...

To liven up the outfit, I added a statement necklace and some geek-chic glasses. Hang in there everyone...winter has to end at some point...

My outerwear saga would not be complete without this statement coat I picked up at Value Village for five bucks. Yeah that's right. Five. Dollars. Despite some hesitation in the limited styling potential of this baby, at that price, I just had to snap it up.

The bright fuchsia, the over-sized sleeves...no doubt about it, this coat is probably the most unique piece in my winter wardrobe. I opted to pair it with a maroon cloche I picked up in Korea and black boots, gloves and turtleneck. You don't want to overwhelm a look like this with too many crazy colours or accessories. This coat speaks for itself!
