Easy Everyday Makeup

I've altered and adapted my daily makeup routine a lot since I started wearing makeup as a teen, as my taste and experience (and unfortunately my skin) has evolved a lot over the years. For those of you who maybe shy away from wearing makeup daily because you think it's too much, it's really as much or as little as you want to make of it. Check out my typical workday routine:

I don't like wearing foundation or concealer on a daily basis. And to be honest, I'm on a budget and have never found a decent concealer in my price range to do what I need it to do (ie. hide my boxcar scars). Oddly enough though, I find that the L'Oreal Magic Smoothe Souffle works perfectly well as a concealer and I just pat some onto my problem areas with my finger and they just disappear!

Next, I use NYX's Eyebrow Cake Powder to fill in my sparse brows and may or may not run some wax through it to set it. I do it really fast and just follow the natural line of my eyebrows. You may want to outline your brows before you start if you're looking for an even more clean, thick or structured look, but I'm not looking for a Brooke Shields makeover, I just really want to fill in the patchy areas. And here's a tip for you black-haired readers: don't use black, use dark brown. It will look much more natural.

I used to curl my eyelashes and use mascara everyday but alas, I became afraid of damaging my already thin, short and frail lashes, so I stopped. Still, I like defining my eyes and found a perfect alternative: Annabelle's Metallic Kohl Eyeliner. If you don't want to be too vampy at work, opt for for the metallic brown shade and only line the upper lash-line like I do, it really adds a sort of subtle defining effect to your lids.

Blush is probably my go-to product. Even if I don't take time to do my eyebrows or line my eyes, if I just dust some blush onto the apple of my cheeks, I am satisfied. I haven't found a really good cream blusher so most days I use a combo of powder blushes, such as Essence Silky Touch Blush and finishing with some ELF Studio Baked Blush for some extra "glow."

Lastly, if I don't feel like wearing lipstick, I might finish with a gloss or tinted balm like L'Oreal Colour Riche Balm. Et voilĂ ! A perfectly simple, subtle, pretty everyday look in just 10 minutes!

One More Coat for the Collection

Coat: Target / Hat: American Apparel / Shoes: hand me down

A few weeks ago, I purchased this new coat. I don't think you would ever guess but I got this fur-collared beauty at Target. As I mentioned in my last post, Target is becoming my new fave hangout. For any American readers, it should be noted that Target has only started opening stores in Montreal a couple of months ago so it's still very new and exciting to us Quebecers. I justified this outerwear purchase by telling myself that every girl should own at least one burgundy coat. And just like that, one more coat for the collection. Boom.

Faux Bob No More

Apologies for the poor quality photos but it was a shocking roller coaster of an evening for me! Some of you may have noticed a shorter do on me in our recent Halloween post and indeed most people had to do a double-take in the office (since I've been known to enjoy a good faux-bob now and then). But faux no more!

I had been wrestling with an intense desire to try a cropped style for a long time, but was always too scared to take the plunge. Like ripping off a bandaid, I just forced myself to make an appointment. I didn't want to keep struggling with making the decision and always wondering how it would look. Girls, you know what I'm talking about . . . hair has a weird power over us!

I couldn't have been in better hands. My stylist was Caren, working out of M&C Coiffure, and she practically held my hand through the stomach-dropping initial chop, as I clenched the chair and whispered "ohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygod...." As soon as I could catch my breath and saw myself in the mirror, I was actually elated. "Damn girl, you look so good!" I thought to myself.

After some more snipping and styling, I now have an adorable bob. And for those of you who are enjoying my hair tutorials, not to worry. Not only do I have several tutorials in the bank, ready to be posted, I've already tried styling my new look straight, curly, braided, pinned up, headbands . . . I can't wait to show you guys how versatile this new do actually is!

I LOVE my new haircut and even if I decide not to keep it like this forever, I am so glad I tried it. So to all you gals flirting with the idea to go short, my advice is just to go for it (your hair will always grow back) and be sure to share your haircut adventure with us after the shock wears off!

Happy Halloween

Hey Frockers! Hope everyone had a fun-filled Halloween, because we sure did! The day was off to a great start as we arrived at the office and enjoyed some gummy bears and M&Ms for breakfast. Our office always has a themed costume contest and this year, the theme was CANDY. Can you guess which candy we went with?

The Printed Cardigan

Hey Frockers!
Just wanted to share with y'all my new favourite cardigan. I'm not usually one for matching the colour of my outfit in this way, but this ensemble felt quite alright. I picked up this cardigan recently at Target (my new favourite store) for a wallet-friendly 25$. I immediately fell in love with the print. A perfect piece to add to my fall wardrobe.

I have been known to wear sundresses and floral frocks well into the winter season, and I'm here to tell you that you can too! I'm always surprised when people ask me "aren't you cold?" when I wear dresses in January. But I find that acrylic and wool tights are much warmer than cotton jeans. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

Before the snow hits the ground, pair your favourite frocks with fun boots and layer on the accessories. I call this ensemble my "prairie rose" look . . . a little bit retro, a little bit cowgirl. Toss on a braided belt and a felt hat and you're ready to chase the pigeons! I couldn't resist.
