New Year, New Makeup

Ok this is going to be a quickie post cause I'm pretty busy with a new semester starting again and all but I've been meaning to give a serious shout-out to some newly-discovered products that I am in love with. Full disclosure, Marcelle cosmetics gifted us some products a little while ago, but they are not paying me to write this. I was actually pleasantly surprised by two of the products they gave us and had to tell you guys about it.

First up is the Marcelle Duo Eyebrow-Pro Slanted Waterproof Pencil + Tinted Gel. Say that five times fast. I LOVE this brow pencil. The shape of the pencil is actually a sort of flat rectangle with a slanted edge and I find this to be much more conducive to soft brow shape than a pencil-shaped pencil, which can result in some pretty "drawn on" brows. This is pretty perfect for just filling in the patchy parts and giving a bit of definition. It also comes with a tinted gel and who doesn't love a good ol' two-in-one product? My only con is that I wish the colour "dark" were a bit darker. It's a deep brown that doesn't look bad on me but I think a slightly darker hue would look better on us raven-haired ladies.

And next up, I wanted to tell you about the Marcelle Double Precision Liquid Eyeliner Pen, another two in one product, with a brush tip on one end and a felt tip on the other. I have to say the pigmentation could be better, the black isn't the blackest I've seen, but the staying power is UNBELIEVABLE. And trust me, I have tried several waterproof, super stay, 12-hour wear liquid liners and they always, always smudge, leaving an unsightly black line right in my crease. I'm talking everything from the budget brands to Kat Von D's tattoo liner, my previous fav. It's not their fault really, I just have oily lids. But for some reason, the Marcelle Double Precision Liquid Eyeliner Pen stays put! And I really don't know why because other Marcelle products smudge on me like all the others. So if you suffer from oily eyelids like me, I highly recommend this eyeliner pen!

e.l.f. Moisturizing Lipstick and Shimmer Gloss Review

I have a serious makeup addiction. Lip stuff especially. It's truly an illness....a fabulous illness, but an illness nonetheless! Elf is one of my favourite budget brands and I recently purchased a few of their moisturizing lipsticks from their Studio line and their shimmer gloss. I thought I'd share my impressions with you guys and show some swatches since it's pretty hard to come by Elf stuff in Canada.

Lipsticks: Cheeky, Wink Pink, Ravishing Rose, Velvet Rope
Glosses: they don't have names

LIPSTICK PROS
- They are quite moisturizing (all day moisture!)
- They have some great colours + the best tomato red I've tried out of all the drug store brands!
- They have decent pigmentation and staying power
- They cost only $3 each online (or $4 at Target Canada)

LIPSTICK CONS
- The online swatches aren't super accurate

GLOSS PROS
- They smell yummy!
- If you're going for a natural look, these would be good
- It was only $5 for 4 colours

GLOSS CONS
- They aren't very pigmented
- They feel kind of like a gooey balm, not really a gloss

So as I say in the video, I would definitely recommend the lipsticks but not so much the glosses unless you want a super natural look, which you could also get from a tinted lip balm. If you're looking to purchase online, www.eyeslipsface.com often has sales up to 50% of or free shipping deals, so check often! Not that you really need to justify spending the money. It's really worth it for the lipsticks!

Dermablend Professional Cover Creme Review - Take 2!

Last week, Jackie offered you a review of her experience using the Dermablend Professional Cover Creme in Yellow Beige. Since it wasn't quite the right colour for her, we decided to offer a second take on the product using my face as the canvas.

Let's get right into it with the before and after shots:
Using the small spatula that comes with the cover creme, I placed a small amount on the top of my hand and rubbed it around to get a creamier consistency. This is an important step for this particular makeup as it comes in a pretty solid state. After applying the creme throughout my whole face, I did notice that the colour was still slightly too dark for my skin tone. Ideally, I like a foundation that is a little lighter than my skin since I use blush and bronzer to darken my face afterwards.

LIKES:
The main skin issue that I struggle with is dark circles under my eyes and I have to say that this product offered quite a full coverage. I also had a few little red pimples in some areas of my face and these were completely invisible after applying the Cover Creme. I also really loved the way it felt on my skin even after applying quite a bit throughout my whole face. I was surprised to find that the makeup felt extremely smooth and very lightweight, actually felt like my own skin. I wore the makeup for the whole day and did not have any dry or oily effect, it stayed on very nicely. And lastly, as an added bonus, the foundation offers SPF 30 protection!

DISLIKE:
Unlike Jackie, I felt like the makeup made my skin look really matte and not luminous at all. This is not a huge problem since I use highlighters and bronzer to brighten up my face. Also, if you look at the after photo, I feel like the makeup is very visible. I would like to note that I'm not wearing any other makeup therefore this type of full coverage foundation should definitely be worn with a fully made up face and shouldn't just be worn alone.

All in all, I would say the pros outweigh the cons. I wouldn't use this foundation on a daily basis but I think it is perfect for a special event when you are looking for that full coverage.

Many thanks to NailPolishCanada for the fun collaboration!
