Brunchin' Good Time

New Look dress/Aldo, F21, Accessorize necklaces/Vintage, Primark rings/Vintage handbag/Le Chateau pumps

There's nothing like a nice white dress with layers of accessories for a Sunday brunch with a girlfriend. I love wearing white because not only is it a great colour for most skin-tones and hair colours, but it offers the perfect backdrop for piling on the accessories and experimentation in the makeup department.

Specifically, I tried out a two-toned lip look for the first time and I think results are encouraging! I used gloss instead of lipstick for a more subtle effect and went with two kind of similar colours: a fuchsia pink on the upper lip and a cherry red on the lower lip. I'm not sure this look would be for every day, but it adds that extra little interest to a more subdued ensemble that I'm always searching for. Happy brunching!

Safari Shorts

Shorts: Mossimo via Target / Top: F21 / Purse + Hat: Thrifted / Necklace: Expression via The Bay / Shoes: BC Footwear via Winners

Loving my new Safari shorts from Target! This is actually a short that can transition well into an evening outfit and take on a very chic persona if combined with the right pieces. However, since I was only going for Sunday brunch, I decided to really play on the Safari look with the neutral colours and my favourite hat. Enjoy!

Brunch In The City

BOF was recently invited to a "Brunch In The City" event organized by Bold & Blush PR. This was the first edition in a series of Sunday brunches to be held by Bold & Blush to showcase some of Montreal's up-and-coming fashion and beauty businesses. The companies featured this time around were Shal jewelry, I heart naturals cosmetics and The Female Department online clothing store. The event allowed these companies to bring in their products which attendees were free to purchase.

The brunch also featured manicures by Esthetique Forever Mobile Spa, a live DJ and of course, some fine delectables to make it a true "brunch." Not a bad way to spend a Sunday!

The Wanderer's Closet: Parte Deux

Photos by Kyler Kelly

Apologies, Frockers! Usually, Debbie and I manage to post a couple of time before Saturday, but it's been a busy week! I just wanted to share a few more pics of my recent sojourn with you and describe the love affair I'm having with the colour navy blue.

I used to hate navy blue. I always thought it was so boring! I'm so glad I gave it another shot recently because I'm really starting to see the appeal. Navy is actually much richer than I gave it credit for. It's more interesting than straight-up black, and speaking of black, I'm kinda loving mixing black and navy blue in particular (which is great considering my hair colour amirite?) It's like an opposites attract scenario where my dislike actually fuelled a slow obsession that turned into an insatiable curiosity which finally overcame me, and I had to give it another try....classic girl meets navy story!

You may have noticed that there's a certain amount of subversion of expectation that I love in fashion. That's why I'm really looking forward to integrating this new colour into the traditional warmer hues of autumn. While most fall transitions involve a lot of browns, beiges and other warm tones, introducing some colder tones would be a really subtle way to shake things up. Sigh....navy blue and I are really having a moment. And when it's right, it's right.

The Wanderer's Closet

Le chateau pull-over/F21 top/Urban Planet pants/Toms shoes

It doesn't matter where I go or how many times, it is never not a struggle to fill the ol' valise. Whether it's for a few days, or a few weeks, whittling one's closet down to a few essentials is a challenge for even the most seasoned voyagers. There are so many things to consider: where are you going, for how long, what is the weather like, what is the culture like, what doesn't wrinkle too much, what's comfortable, what doesn't take up too much room, what can be worn with three different shirts? A favourite combo of mine for my recent sojourn to the Emerald Isle was these blue harem pants and simple white peasant top. Comfortable? Check. Easy to roll up into a backpack? Check. Stylin'? Check! Just check me out hiking through the Gap of Dunloe. I may never be the thermal hiking gear type of person, but I find my version works just as well.

Every once in a while you find one of those perfect dresses at Forever 21. It may take a lot of time and digging but it happens. For me, this baby pink frock is a perfect day-to-night dress because it feels very casual but it's also overwhelmingly feminine at the same time. I love wearing this dress on a perfect sunny day and lucky me, we've been having quite a few of those lately. Was also pleasantly surprised that my new hat actually completes this look perfectly. Ok, I admit, I have a hat addiction! Anyway, have a good weekend Frockers!
