Happy Hearts Day!

Valentine's Day doesn't hold a candle to Christmas for me, holiday-wise, but there is something about February that does draw me to all the pinks and reds. It could be the fact that it's the dead of winter and the summer pangs are at their worst....

Whether you celebrate Valentine's Day or not, a little rose gold eye shadow and bright red lip never hurt anybody. Happy hearts day, Frockers!

Coral Bride

NYX Rouge Cream Blush in Red Cheeks
Milani Baked Powder Blush in Corallina
Benefit Watts Up higlighter in Soft Focus
Maybelline Colour Sensation lipstick in Vibrant Mandarin
NYX Butter Gloss in Cherry Cheesecake

This look is all about them rosy cheeks and pink pucker. It's neon sweet. I've been particularly obsessed with coral these days and I think this look would make a positively radiant bride. I find that pinks don't necessarily translate as beautifully on film as they do in real life however. Maybe it's the camera, but I really wanted more of a colourful effect with this look. It would depend on the dress too of course.

What do you guys think of this sweet and simple bridal makeup?

Be Mine

I have mixed feelings about Valentine's Day. Part of me wants to roll my eyes...Oh great, yet another holiday requiring you to put a dollar amount on your affection. An easy way to check off the relationship to-do list. There is something decidedly unromantic and slightly disingenuous about these types of forced scenarios. But I guess on the other hand, there is a point to most rituals. It does sort of force you to step back, think about what you have and express some sort of appreciation. I guess we could all use a nudge or cue every now and then. It's not all bad! And on the plus side, I just love mixing pink with red!

Every once in a while you find one of those perfect dresses at Forever 21. It may take a lot of time and digging but it happens. For me, this baby pink frock is a perfect day-to-night dress because it feels very casual but it's also overwhelmingly feminine at the same time. I love wearing this dress on a perfect sunny day and lucky me, we've been having quite a few of those lately. Was also pleasantly surprised that my new hat actually completes this look perfectly. Ok, I admit, I have a hat addiction! Anyway, have a good weekend Frockers!

La Vie en Rose

Hat and Jacket: Thrifted / Skirt: H&M / Top: Joe Fresh / Socks: American Apparel / Shoes: Payless / Brooch: Thrifted

Don't you just love when an outfit comes together so effortlessly, that's when you know it was meant to be. I spotted this pink jacket at a vintage sale to support Alzheimer care and immediately fell in love. When I got home I added the brooch for a little extra punch and it was like a match made in heaven. Once I had this jacket, I picked out a few pieces that fit into the girlish romantic story and the textures and colours all came together beautifully. Sometimes, the best way to create an outfit is to work around one particular piece because this will keep you focused instead of tearing apart your closet aimlessly. We've all been there, right ladies?!

Pretty In Pink

I got this fuzzy pink sweater in Korea and I'm actually kind of bummed that I haven't been able to wear it much this winter. For some reason, the heat is on full blast at our office and I've had to sport short-sleeves on a daily basis or risk heat stroke.

However, due to my, shall we say...frugal nature...I do keep my apartment at a chilly 18 degrees so I whip out this darling sweater on those weekends at home. Side-note: if you know me, you're probably confused since I tend to start shivering if the mercury dips below 24, but it costs a lot to heat a whole apartment ok?

Anyway, I just love the idea of pairing this sweet, baby pink sweater with an equally sweet, baby blue skirt, chilly as my legs may get. And let's face it. Even if I wore wool pants, I'd still need to throw on a robe and huddle under two blankets to keep warm!

Best of 2013

As another year comes to a close and we look back at all the adventures we had, the laughs we shared and the fashion we enjoyed, 2013 definitely goes into the history books as one of the best years ever. This was the year Bouquet of Frocks was born!

Here's a look back at some of our favourite fashion moments of 2013.

The Face Poet

I recently read of the term "face poet" in Flare magazine, one of my favourite Canadian fashion mags, and I thought that was a great term. Good makeup artists really are poets. I myself graduated from the university of YouTube and by no means would I call myself a skilled expert or even attempt with confidence to do another persons makeup.

Nevertheless I truly believe that makeup is one of the best parts of being a girl (or guy who likes makeup!) Along with fashion, there is really is no better way to transform a look, tell a story, play dress-up or enjoy a good alter-ego. Everyone needs a good alter-ego!

Here's one of my recent experiments along with a quick how-to:

After applying primer on your lids, dust the entire lid with a pale base colour.

Follow with a healthy coat of a bright pink all over the lid.

Using an angled contouring brush, pat on a bright purple shadow to only the outside half of the lid.

Using a flat angled brush, apply pink shadow to the lower lash line (inside half) and purple shadow to the outside half.

Blend, blend, blend!

Line the upper and lower lashline with black liner.

And for all you who don't think you could be a face poet...don't stop trying and experimenting! It could be you haven't found the right tools or colours or techniques and sometimes all it takes is a little more practice. And it's not like I'm anything close to a professional makeup artist, but I am very happy with the looks I've been able to achieve and make my own. You just need to find what works for you!

Happy makeuping!
