AG Jeans + Alexa Chung + billie = Denim Heaven

A few days ago, the ladies of Bouquet of Frocks had a chance to catch the new Alexa Chung/AG Jeans clothing collection at our local billie boutique right here in Montreal. It was an evening of music, makeup and fashion. The winner of the night had to be a killer denim number with the flouncy neckline that Debbie and I really drooled over... A button-down denim mini-dress also caught our eye along with some of the softest jeans I've ever felt! No doubt about it, denim is a wardrobe must and it's always fun to see what kind of new details and silhouettes designers come up with!

The Canadian Uniform

Denim is one of the biggest trends this fall, with overalls and jumpsuits being the new thing you didn't think was a thing. Another way to hop aboard this style is donning what can be affectionately coined as the "Canadian Uniform." To be honest, I think there's a third piece I'm missing to make it official, but close enough! The easiest way to try this look out is with a dark plus light colour combo. It breaks up the look just enough. And throw on some statement accessories and you're ready to take on the Canadian autumn....eh?

Flower Power

It's a day I look forward every year. My annual trip to the farmer's market to buy some blooms for my little garden. Maybe some folks consider the first nice day of the year to be the start of Spring, or the first day they can wear sandals. For me, Spring isn't here until I make that trip to the market and leave with an armful of the sunniest flowers. It's the day where I can finally be confident that the danger of frost is over. What a day!

And the perfect attire for a day at the market? This delightful circle crop top I recently got at H&M. The crop top trend is still going strong and I love the extra element of flouncy fun in this one! I'm sure I've said it before, but I'll repeat it again: if you're not so confident about your middle bits, pairing a crop top with a nice high-waisted bottom is an easy way for anyone to enjoy this fabulous trend, well into the summer.

Happy gardening!

The Cape Crusader

Photos by Kyler Kelly

I really can't say enough about the benefits of a good cape when traveling. There's nothing quite so enchanting and surprisingly versatile. You don't need punchy colours, heavy accessories or second-guesses. It elevates itself into the fashion stratosphere.

I recently went on a trip to China and this number really came through for me. Whether it was paired simply with jeans, a short shift dress or knee-socks and booties, I didn't spend a single sight-seeing day feeling dowdy. Despite the simplicity of the colour and design, the whole idea of a cape just adds intrigue to any outfit. In order to steer clear of the potentially frumpy silhouette, I made sure my legs were always well-defined in some classic skinny jeans or shorter hem-lined dresses. And for those brisker days, I threw on a dusty rose scarf and wool gloves. Granted, a cape may not be the best choice if the mercury drops below the double digits, but this beauty got me from Beijing to Guangzhou in style. What are your favourite travel must-haves?

Robyn à la Mode

Recently, Bouquet of Frocks decided to collaborate with Life is Better Red and the results were delicious! We headed on over to Juliette & Chocolat to share some of Montreal's sweet treats with Robyn of "Life is Better Red" and she returned the favor with a look at one of fall's biggest trends: the classic chambray shirt.

Happy Thanksgiving from Edmonton, where our beautiful fall is in full swing! There
are so many fashion trends that I am loving for autumn: camo, leather, animal print,
boots, ankle straps and of course one of my favourites, chambray. I’ve been all over
my chambray shirt since I picked it up in February, wearing it with maxi skirts, with
pencil skirts, with short summer skirts, with brightly coloured shorts, tucked in,
pulled out, button up, unbuttoned… you name it, I’ve done it!

And that is what I love so much about my chambray shirt, it’s versatility. Now, as we
are moving into fall in Edmonton, there are even more variations. I love the look of a
tailored chambray shirt paired with coloured denim or a skinny military pant.
While going out for a walk to enjoy the gorgeous fall colours on Thanksgiving
weekend, I put together an outfit featuring my well-loved chambray shirt. I paired
the shirt with my favourite pair of coloured denim (to avoid the Canadian Tuxedo),
an extremely comfortable pair of jeans in a rich mulberry. I dressed the outfit up
with a chunky necklace and some sparkly bracelets. I threw on my favourite brown
leather ankle boots and my black leather biker jacket and I was ready to go.

Hopefully this beautiful fall weather will last for at least a couple more weeks, giving
me a chance to show off some more fall fashion before I am forced to hide it all
under my super warm and puffy Canada Goose coat.
