I'm All About That Cardi

Thrifted handkerchief and boots
Levi Strauss belt
H&M cardigan
Vintage American Apparel skirt

I would definitely say that cardigans are a wardrobe must-have. I myself have several in my collection because nothing helps you hang onto your summer garb long after summer is over than a good ol' cardi. I'm dressing it up with loads of accessories in this look to add a bit more interest to an otherwise plain cardigan from H&M. By the way, for all you short girls out there, I find that accentuating the waist with a belt is a great way to make your short legs look....well not long but not even shorter in those longer skirts. Anyway, back to cardis....I like to round out my collection with neutral colours that go with everything, with one or two textured or fun-coloured design. What can I say? Cardigans are like jeans to me.

Denim Daydreams

Dress from China
Globo wedges
F21 sunnies
Levi Strauss Signature belt

Denim is the ultimate wardrobe staple. No matter the season, nothing says "cool" quite like a classic blue denim piece. Denim overalls, jumpsuits and dresses have really been having their moment lately and I can really see why. There's no other style that is so effortlessly casual yet chic, and works on so many people, no matter your shape, size, age, where you live or what you do. And it's one of those things where an inexpensive piece can look just as good or better than its $2000 counterpart. All this to say....I'm really loving denim at the moment!

The Golden Rule

Sammydress frock & handbag/F21 belt & headband/vintage heels/old cardigan

To be honest, metallics aren't really my thing, unless we're talking eyeshadow of course! If you're the same, a fun way to incorporate a hits of metal into your look is with a stylish belt, pretty headband, or chic handbag. I am partial to both silver and gold tones (and lately I've been kind of obsessed with rose gold, but that's a story for another post) and in this look, adding pops of gold really add an extra element of fun to a pretty but plain nude dress. The warmth of the gold compliments the frock perfectly and if you look closely, there is no metal on my headband, only beads and sequins. But the way it adds shine and reflects light certainly does the trick! And although the belt is large and wide, the minimalistic design mimics the simplicity and elegance of the dress, and keeps it from overwhelming the outfit. I finished the look with a cream-coloured quilted handbag avec metallic strap and called it a day.

Sometimes, it's all in the accessories.

Brunchin' Good Time

New Look dress/Aldo, F21, Accessorize necklaces/Vintage, Primark rings/Vintage handbag/Le Chateau pumps

There's nothing like a nice white dress with layers of accessories for a Sunday brunch with a girlfriend. I love wearing white because not only is it a great colour for most skin-tones and hair colours, but it offers the perfect backdrop for piling on the accessories and experimentation in the makeup department.

Specifically, I tried out a two-toned lip look for the first time and I think results are encouraging! I used gloss instead of lipstick for a more subtle effect and went with two kind of similar colours: a fuchsia pink on the upper lip and a cherry red on the lower lip. I'm not sure this look would be for every day, but it adds that extra little interest to a more subdued ensemble that I'm always searching for. Happy brunching!

Summer Days Are Drifting Away...

...but that's not going to stop Debbie and I from living out the final golden days of summer with our take on nautical resortwear. Forget the sailor pants and stripes with red, our version is all about light, airy and pretty! And personally, I can't let an outfit go without a hit of colour.

Montreal is known for having a split-weather personality (only two weeks earlier, we were still braving the snow!) At long last out of hibernation, we dusted off our wedges and espadrilles and headed for the Old Port.

"In Montreal spring is like an autopsy.
Everyone wants to see the inside
of the frozen mammoth. Girls rip off their sleeves
and the flesh is sweet and white,
like wood under green bark. From the streets
a sexual manifesto rises like an inflating tired,
'the winter has not killed us again!'"

- Leonard Cohen (Beautiful Losers)
