Winter Finally Caught Up To Us

Calvin Klein coat
Aldo hat
Simons mittens
Hush Puppies boots
F21 jeans

Winter was a bit of a no-show at the end of 2015, but we weren't really complaining. I'm assuming it was all to do with the fact that I finally replaced my old down winter coat after like 5 years and my equally old snow boots with the hole in it. I prepared for a long, cold winter so it decided not to come. You're welcome Montreal. But alas, all good things must come to an end. Winter is here....but at least I'm ready!

Sequin Joggers

Pants: Marc Cain / Coat: TJ Maxx / Booties: Target / Hat: Zara / Bag: Old Navy

Nothing says holiday swagger like a pair of sequin joggers, amirite? These pants are a real special piece and I'm obsessed with them. During this time of year I lean towards cozy, comfortable clothing and this lets me have that while still feeling super glam. I've never been one to leave the house in jogging pants but these are definitely the exception!

It's Been A Long, Cold Winter

Photos by Kyler Kelly

This winter extension has everyone all bummed out. It gets warm enough for the snow to start melting but then it freezes over into a delightful sheet of ice. It's official. This is the worst winter ever. And that's not even hyperbole. We've broken many a record this winter in Montreal. And just when you think it might be over, BAAAM,....you get slapped in the face with 40km/hour winds and a fresh blanket of the white stuff. We that's not stopping me from transiting from my down armour to some light wool jackets. Keeping looks fresh and fun in the winter is the ultimate stylista's challenge and sometimes the smug satisfaction of spiting the cold weather gods is enough to keep you warm.

In your face winter!

The Perpetual Montreal Winter

Photos by Kyler Kelly

Aldo headband/RW&Co coat/Simons shirt and mittens/F21 cardigan and skirt/Winners leg warmers/Spring boots/Kate Spade handbag

I know, I know, you're all tired of all this WINTER-WOE-IS-ME!! thing.....believe me, so am I.

What can I say? It's getting really hard to ignore how awful it is in Montreal right now. It's the end of February and still -30, with a fresh pile of snow on the ground. It's as if the weather report is just taunting us. I always check that 14-day forecast and near the end of the two weeks, they always say the temperature is going to creep up there to the single digits below 0, but as the days pass, the numbers drop and they renew their 2-week promise, never to be fulfilled....

Those bastards.

You would think I'd get used to these long, hard winters here but no, not me. Every February is brutal because it's the coldest month and the month when you're the most sick of winter. You would be hard-pressed to find me at home (if I don't have to leave the house) in anything other than my cozy PJs and robe, wrapped up in a blanket. When I do venture out, you'll find me bundled up in my go-to down coat from RW&Co, my favourite wool mittens from Simons and cause I just can't pass up the opportunity to mismatch my prints, my fair isle leg warmers and houndstooth snow boots.

A new addition this winter for me is this lovely beaded headband from Aldo! It's so warm and snug with just a touch of flair. If you're looking for a fun, modern alternative to a plain old winter hat, I highly recommend a wool headband. I mean it will never rival a floral sundress in my heart, but I gotta say, it does soften that cruel, cruel winter punch in the gut.

All Wrapped Up

H&M sweater and pants/vintage shoes/scarf from India

I'm trying to tell myself that we're in the winter home stretch but you really wouldn't know it from the weather we've been having lately. Sharp winds, never-ending snow and the mercury dipping below -30 are just some of the fabulous features of a Montreal February. And as many of you may know by now, I refuse to heat my apartment to an adequate degree (re: I'm cheap) so you'd be hard pressed to find me sitting at home without being wrapped up in some kind of blanket or scarf or even wearing my coat indoors.

Enter this delicious teal patchwork scarf I snapped up in India! I just love the colours and haphazard design of this scarf and it is so thick and warm. And you guys know how much I love my mismatched prints....I just had to add this to my winter rotation! Keeping warm in a Montreal winter is no joke and this is the next best thing after wearing my bathrobe everywhere. Has that become a thing yet? No? Didn't think so....

White on White

Jacket: Naf Naf (thrifted) / Boots: Michael Kors / Scarf: Joe Fresh / Headband & Gloves: vintage / Handbag: F21 / Tights: Smart Sert

Hey Frockers! I'm finally back with a new outfit post today. The past few weeks have been brutal since the cold here has been relentless and my fashion sense seems so far away from me. Not to worry, I pulled myself together for you guys and brought out one of my most recent thrifted jackets. Such a great find, obviously could not resist those puffed three quarter sleeves, right? I also happened to take these shots on one of the coldest days of the year so, as you can see, my poor little wrists suffered a bit but otherwise I'm bundled up nicely in a combination of furs. I'd like to point out that the scarf is actually 100% faux but it's absolutely one of the best looking faux furs I've ever seen. Ok, I love my winter accessories and all but...Is it too early to start a spring countdown?

Winter Woes

Photos by Kyler Kelly

Restoration Hardware faux fur hat/F21 sweater/Primark jeans/Zara booties

Winter blahs. Need I say more? I'm deep into the winter semester and wouldn't you know it? Every day I have class just happens to be -20 with a nipping wind. Just great. I wish I had more time for blogging, but between work and school, it's hard enough to even put together a little punchy outfit let alone take some pics. But I'm taking a cue from Debbie and throwing on a statement hat. And along with my go-to remedy for any drab outfit (a red lip for the win!), I'm feeling 40 degrees warmer already.

Sneaker Chic

Coat: Primark / Sweater and hat: F21 / Leggings: Joe Fresh / Shoes: Nike via The Bay

Yo girls! I'm here today to tell you about my recent obsession with sneakers. For a long time, I simply avoided any type of athletic looking shoe and felt no place for them in my life. But suddenly, in the past couple of years, I've noticed that sneakers are really making a come back in a chic way. Adding your favourite sneakers to a fashionable outfit can add that perfect element of "effortless chic" that every girl strives for. And who can complain about that, they're comfortable!
The Nikes above are my most recent purchase and I got them on boxing day at The Bay for a sweet deal! A black and white pair is a good place to start because it's extra easy to incorporate. I know we aren't quite in ideal sneaker-wearing weather right now but I couldn't resist. Totally embracing this new sneaker love!

A Russian Winter

Smart Set top/vintage boots and hat/coat and skirt from China/infinity scarf as muff from Hong Kong

It's official. We are in the heart of winter and my favourite coat is still going strong! Like I've always said, accessories really make the outfit. Just compare a bold and elegant look like this to the understated class of my previous post and you can hardly believe it's the same coat. I paired this vintage hat with a similar faux fur infinity scarf I picked up in Hong Kong last year, but instead of putting it around my neck, I decided to really go all the way and turn it into a muff. I mean, if you're gonna brave the winter like this you gotta go all the way. And just to keep it interesting, I added a few pops of colour and the transformation is complete. I feel like I just stepped out of a Tolstoy novel or something!

Here's to bringing new life to old coats!

The Winter Romper

Romper: Target / Boots: Zara / Headband: vintage / Necklace: Expression via The Bay

Just like the winter dress, there also exists a winter version of the romper. It's not super visible but the bottom part of this outfit is actually loose shorts. A darker colour and a longer sleeve is all you need to rock a romper throughout the colder months. It can be easily matched with your favourite pair of boots and tights and you're all set. I recently picked this one up at Target for an embarrassingly low price and was stunned at how well it fit. It's my first winter romper and I'm definitely sold on this look!
