Fashion means a lot of things to me. The way I see it, the body is a canvas. It's there for me to decorate and adorn, to wipe clean and create something new the next day.

As Debbie once put so eloquently, people are never just one thing. You should never limit yourself to one idea of a person. Forget "this isn't me"... if you like it, it's you and you should rock it with confidence! Fashion to me, means self-expression and the exploration of your many alter-egos. Remember how fun it was to play dress-up when you were little? Well, it never really gets old. And I, for one, love pretending that I'm a spy at a masquerade ball, sent to seduce the French Ambassador for all his state secrets. Cause let's face it...besides Nobel Price winning mathematician, there's pretty much no scenario more ludicrous for me. Still, it's fun to pretend.

Those Grey Days...

How much longer can winter drag on? Well, I am making an effort to maintain a little bit of style during these dark days. Even though my outfit has zero color to it, I think the crazy pattern pants are a lot of fun and a beaded collar on an otherwise boring grey sweater never hurt anyone. I'm still trying to keep it alive, people.

One of the things I hate most about winter is the ritual of packing away our favourite skirts and dresses, never to see the light of day. I maintain a firm belief that trousers need not be winter's go-to garment. Though you may not want to venture out of doors literally in bare skin, who's to tell you a trip to the museum, high-tea with your cousin, or any ol' Tuesday can't be kicked up a notch? There's no lighter feeling than a tulle skirt that just seems to float around your body. Hello old friend, it's been too long...

One of my standard winter uniforms consistent of this black/grey ensemble that kind of reminds me of something a stylish granny would wear. It sort of envelopes you in warmth. There's just something about the asymmetrical cardigan that I love! I suppose it's because it just floats around you like a pretty dress...

To liven up the outfit, I added a statement necklace and some geek-chic glasses. Hang in there everyone...winter has to end at some point...

Valentine's Day is about much more than chocolates, flowers and expensive gifts. It's about reflection and appreciation for one of the greatest joys of human existence: that ooey gooey feeling we call love. Even if you don't have a particular "special someone" in your life, we all have great loves. Friends, family, neighbours, coworkers, critters, even ourselves! When was the last time you treated yourself to some flowers or that handbag you've been eyeing? Well go ahead...you deserve it!

Happy Valentine's Day, you beautiful Frockers! xoxo

Debbie's Footwear Addiction - cont'd

I haven't had much time lately for my usual browsing and shopping around town so when I finally made it out to the mall one late Friday evening, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the semi-annual Zara sale was still in full force. As I walked into the store the first thing I spotted was these beige suede beauties (real suede and not the faux stuff!). As I flipped over the tag to reveal the 40$ sale price, I could feel the endorphins releasing in my body. I was stuck dragging these boots around the whole store with me as I browsed the entirety of the sale collection and periodically stopped at each mirror to try them on over and over again to be sure of my decision. Despite the fact that I sometimes feel my legs are too short to really pull off the over-the-knee boot, I just couldn't leave these behind. They are now tucked away safely in my closet as we await the disappearance of all signs of snow and moisture...can't wait!

I recently learned that until snow hardens, it absorbs sound. That's why those snowy winter nights seem so calm and tranquil. I also learned to think of walking on snow like walking on clouds. I can't remember a time when winter wasn't just to bear and survive, yet I have the photographic evidence of conquering the snow banks in Newfoundland, grinning in triumph. It's funny what time does to the things you used to love. Nowadays, I'd rather cozy up under some blankets than scale Mount Parking-Lot-Snowbank. But for those lovely winter walks (on clouds), I love pulling out this coat I picked up in Seoul. For this look, I added a pop of colour with a cozy red sweater (also from Seoul) and some of my favourite winter classics. I feel as light as air.

Lounging Around in Something Pretty

Let's face it, winter can get pretty depressing up here in Canada. And until I become a retired snowbird, I am forced to deal with it. During these dead months, we forget what it feels like to wear a sandal or take a stroll in a lightweight dress. These simple pleasures are lost. Well this is why I decided to indulge in one of my girliest floral frocks even if it was just to lounge around the house. Nothing like a little fashion pick-me-up!
